All one needs is a little bit of inspiration.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14739672314346299295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6649691172450161008.post-70812174032793483782012-04-04T08:24:09.856-05:002012-04-04T08:24:09.856-05:00Excellent point. While it is nice to see the love ...Excellent point. While it is nice to see the love many people have for the 16-bit era (and for these classic games), it'd be nice to see them turn that love towards making their own game rather than remaking another. I certainly agree that Chrono Trigger is worthy of an HD remake (though I see no problem with the original graphics, of course), but that sort of thing needs to be Square's decision, not a fan project.

Look...I can have a little more sympathy for projects that are actually remaking a game that's no longer available or all those game translation projects for games that never came over here, but even those are pretty darn illegal. Yes, companies need to do a better job of bringing games over (and I think we've seen positive strides in that direction recently, with the release of Xenoblade and The Last Story after fan outcry, and the release of Warriors Orochi 3 by simply lowering the cost of the localization by dropping English voiceovers), but that doesn't mean we have the right to just go ahead and do it ourselves if they don't.

But this one? This one is remaking a game that is not only still available, but amazingly available. Square isn't letting Chrono Trigger lie. From its original release on the SNES, it has been released on the Playstation, the DS, the Virtual Console for the Wii, and even, if I recall correctly, iOS. This isn't a case of a game that a company has refused to release. This is a game that is very available in reasonable forms. These guys are not crusading to get a game into the hands of people who have no reasonable way to get it...they're working to release a game that people can already get. I can easily understand Square-Enix being a tad upset by this.

If you have the talent to make an HD remake of a game as stunning as Chrono Trigger, then yes...make your own game. You've got talented programmers and artists already, and I daresay you've probably got someone with a good understanding of game balance unless you're just literally replicating every last stat from the original game. Sounds like all you might need is a good writer, and you can make your own great new RPG and become known for what you made instead of for slapping a fresh coat of paint on a game we could already get.Robert Mohrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06743186445657692368noreply@blogger.com
